Mexican hot chocolate
Nothing beats the cold like a decadent chocolate drink with a little kick. A recipe on Ready Set Eat inspired us to suggest it for the Seattle, Tacoma, Puget Sound workplace. Make Mexican hot chocolate by using hot cocoa mix or ordering it from the coffee vending machine. Then add a pinch of cinnamon and a dash of cayenne pepper to take the flavor up a notch. Of course, if you are going to bring spices from home, you might also bring a can of ready-to-serve whipped cream to make the hot chocolate extra special.
Coffee with cinnamon and spice
Flavored coffee is very popular. Based on a recipe on Taste of Home, we suggest trying your own hand at adding flavor yourself. Start with a fresh cup of black coffee, add ½ cinnamon stick, 4 cloves and 5 tsp of sugar. Let it steep for 5 minutes and then remove the spices. Alternatively, you can use common spice mixes, such as pumpkin pie spice, to give your cup-of-joe a flavor boost. This works especially well if you take cream(er), which can help disguise any ground spices that don’t dissolve.
Mulled Dr Pepper
When we discovered this recipe on Taste of Home’s website, we were on cloud wine. Why? Because mulled wine is such a nostalgic winter drink, that is rarely work appropriate. However, this recipe aims to capture the sweet and highly seasoned complexity of mulled wine with an alcohol free alternative – Dr Pepper. Here is the single-serve recipe inspired by the original recipe. Take a can or bottle of Dr Pepper from the Seattle, Tacoma, Puget Sound vending machine and pour it into a microwave safe mug. Add a pinch of brown sugar and ground allspice. Use 4 cloves, ½ cinnamon stick, and dash of salt and nutmeg. Prepare your mix at home, and bring it along to work the next day to enjoy a gourmet hot drink experience in the office.
Spicy Apple Chai
Hot teas provide a great opportunity to experiment. This recipe from Bigelow uses their black spicy chai tea and fruit juice. Steep the tea in hot water from the office coffee machine. Once ready, add a half cup of apple cider. Heat the tea in the microwave until it’s hot again and add a teaspoon of sugar, stirring until dissolved. Aroma, spice, and everything nice.
White Peppermint Mocha
This white peppermint mocha recipe from Coffee mate will tickle your taste buds. First you’ll need a white chocolate morsel. Place it in your mug and then fill the mug with espresso or double strength hot coffee. As the chocolate melts, use a fork to blend it with the coffee. Add in ½ cup milk and 2 tablespoons Coffee mate peppermint mocha flavor liquid (a flavored creamer). Garnish with a candy cane to maximize coworker hot drink jealousy.
